the clank of heavy brass upon wound steel was his voice. as much his voice as his delivered word. this was his choosing from at least as far back as 1976 when we became friends. through the following decades, you could always find rainer generating up a small storm on any given night, warding off the trendy temptings of a bewildered sonic world. his spin on things was the dance. his evoking of dilemma was the recovery. And all this was his choice before you ever knew what important music was. `important´ being that which not only meant something to you then, but still stands up here in the future as something you can never imagine doing without.
