In 1984 I discovered the music of my peers - a sound that stretched from Hoboken to Athens and from LA to Chico. Among the many indie-rock godheads during the mid 80's expolosion, Rain Parade shined high above the rest. Since 1985, despite rumours of a pending double album, Rain Parade has remained silent on the recording front.
You hold in your hands the 'lost double album'. The songs released here for the first time present a broad view of the RP genius. Side one gives you most of the 'Crashing Dream' album as originally intended (including two unknown tracks). This is a much deeper and more personal vision than that released by Island records in 1985. Side two documents 'the new world order' version of RP, far removed from the perfumed garden noise of some earlier work. A nightmarish amalgam of cathederal organ and distorted guitars are the backdrop for tales of desperate love, psychic disintergration, serial murders and immoral foreign policy.
What is referred to as the 'Manchester sound' owes a huge debt to the music and musicians contained herein. These demos and live versions are more than historical artifacts - they stand as emotional scars. Forget the Led Zep box set. This is the music of our generation. Dig it.
